"What an enjoyable, relaxing place to stay. We loved sitting on the lanai, and just watching the palm trees sway in the breeze, while listening to the crashing of the waves."

Transportation

Following is a list of transportation information. On Maui, which is 739 square miles, the best thing to do is to rent a car. Nearly every visitor to Maui gets around in a rental car, and for good reason. Many of the island's best sights can only be reached if you have independent transportation.

Car Rental

All car rental companies are conveniently located at the airport.
I would suggest that all persons intending to rent a car have rental car insurance on their personal car insurance. If not, the rental car companies will try to charge ~$1,000 per car for insurance. If the person renting the car doesn't have the rental car insurance on their policy, it is easy an cheap to add. They can always cancel it when they return home. Seat belt use is required by law.

Here are the available companies at the airport:

“Aloha Rent A Car Maui” is first and most recommended. The have the best prices and the best service. Their contact info is www.aloharentacar.com or email: cars@aloharentacar.com or toll free 1-877-452-5642. They will rent to 21+ years old.

Alamo 1-800-327-9633 (rents to 21+ drivers)
  Avis 1-800-321-3712
Budget 1-800-527-0700 (cheaper on the internet)
Dollar 1-800-800-4000 (rents to 21+ drivers)
  Enterprise 1-800-736-8222
  Hertz 1-800-654-3011
  National 1-800-227-7368
  Thrifty 1-800-367-5238

"Word of Mouth" rental cars in Kahului 1-800-533-5929: Will rent to 21+ drivers, will pick up at the airport 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., otherwise will leave car at airport. $135 a week to $160 a week plus tax, small Japanese cars.

Scooter Rental

If you want to rent a scooter: Aloha Toy Store 1-808-662-0888 in Lahaina (Must be 20+ years old)

Bus Service

There is a new bus service that you can look at under the website:
www.akinatours.com There is a stop right next to Valley Isle Resort and there is another stop at Whalers Village where the Hyatt is. The phone number is 1-808-879-2828. This bus system would take the guests to most places they would need to go. I would still strongly suggest a rental car for the guests. They will still need to go to other places not on the route. The buses run every hour and the earliest one is 9:47 a.m.

Other Transportation

There are some alternate means of transportation that I will give you the websites for. I believe you will not find much of a savings between this and renting a car:
